Potential Efficacy of Pregnancy Status on HIV Laboratory Reports

چکیده
Introduction In Louisiana, information contained on electronic laboratory reports is not able to identify the pregnancy status for the majority of HIV-infected women.1 Laboratories have access to ICD9/ICD10 codes which could provide information about pregnancy status, but few laboratories provide these codes to Health Departments. In some areas, such as New York City, the reporting of pregnancy status, if available, is required.2 This study quantifies the opportunities for reducing perinatal HIV transmission if pregnancy status was available on laboratory reports and determines if this information would have been useful for targeting these pregnancies for follow up from Disease Intervention Specialists (DIS). If pregnancy status is found to be useful, states should require pregnancy status in their laboratory reporting guidelines.

Malaria in pregnancy can lead to serious maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. Access to the most effective antimalarials in pregnancy is essential. Resistance to current therapies is high for all antimalarial therapies except artemisinins. Artemisinin-based combination therapy is current the first line of malaria treatment recommended by the WHO for children, adults and pregnant women in...

Background: Cytotoxic T lymphocyte–associated antigen 4 (CTLA-4) molecules are expressed on T-cells and inhibit their function by inhibiting activation of subsequent T-cell molecular pathways. Blocking of CTLA-4 inhibits the growth of malignant tumor cells. Anti-CTLA-4 monoclonal antibodies activate the immune system against cancer. Due to several advantages of single-chain antibodi...

Antenatal HIV screening policies throughout the British Isles were surveyed and results linked to data on HIV-infected pregnant women notified through the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. Units offering HIV testing to all pregnant women were compared with those offering it only to women considered to be at risk, and in both situations fewer than 50% of infected women were iden...
